Q) How do I get my Travel insurance extended  ?

 

A) You need to email to your insurance company an extension request with a declaration stating that you are in good health and that you have not preferred any claim till the date. You also need to arrange for payment of premium required for the extension.

Q) My travel insurance expired last week and I am still required to stay abroad for one more month. How do I get my policy extended ?

 

A) Generally insurance companies do not extend a policy if it expired. However, you may connect with your insurance consultant to see if your case could be made an exception.

Q) I have a travel insurance policy to USA for 90 days. Can I come back to Bangalore for a week and travel again to US on the same policy ?

 

A) Once you land in India, your travel insurance expires (unless it is a Multi-Trip Plan). You need to buy a fresh policy to go back to USA.

Q) I have an existing medical condition. Will my Travel insurance pay for it ?

 

A) Travel insurance Plans do not cover pre-existing medical conditions. This would mean, no claim will be paid for any treatment directly or indirectly related to the pre-existing medical condition. However, certain Plans cover expenses for Pre-existing diseases in case of life-threatening situations.

Q) Can I buy a Travel insurance policy for a year ?

 

A) A travel policy can be purchased for a maximum of 360 days at a stretch.

People who need to travel abroad frequently can buy a Annual Multi-Trip policy with a maximum trip duration of 90 days and use the same policy throughout the year.

Q) I’m 70 years old and need to travel to Europe. Do I need to undergo Medical Tests for Travel Insurance ?

 

A) Medical Tests are NOT required upto age 70.

A) Yes, Travel insurance can be arranged upto the age of 80 years subject to medical tests and discretion of the insurance company.

A) A claim for delay in arrival of checked-in baggage can be made whilst you are abroad. Once you are back in India, you cannot make this claim.

A) You need to contact the Helpline number provided in your Travel insurance policy and provide the policy details. While cash-less facility is available for in-patient treatment in a hospital / nursing home abroad, the out-patient treatment expenses are reimbursed in India.

Q) In case medical treatment is required, is there any need for any pre-approval before hospitalization ?

 

A) You would need to contact the third party administrator (TPA) at the Helpline number given in your insurance policy and they would arrange for the cashless claims for the medical treatment.

A) TPA stands for Third Party Administrator. The most essential service they provide is cashless medical treatment. They also provide the necessary information to deal with any problem regarding claims.
